Visiting New Norfolk in Tasmania for a 3 week art residency at Willow Avenue. Great getting away from the NQ summer and high humidity and experiencing some cooler weather. Also enjoying the time to paint and tour around Tasi with all the beautiful scenery. The latest attraction is MONA and it certainly lives up to its reputation as the art place to see. Lucky enough to view the set up for Walsh’s wedding and reception at MONA. Phalic of course given his predominant themes of death and sex. Many galleries to visit in Hobart and art studios and crafty shops at Salamanca Arts Centre. Lucky artists to have access to the studios.
Thru the Flower: Aspects of the Feminine celebrating International Women’s Day 2014 is now showing at my gallery in Townsville from 7 – 30 March 2014. Sixteen local artists exhibiting some very exciting works. Opened by Dr Betty McLellan with a very informative presentation relating to women artists to an attentive audience. Heather Byrne is looking after my gallery while I am away. A big thank-you to Heather.
SNAPPED – not a still life is our upcoming exhibition for the approaching festive season. It will be a themed end of year exhibition. It is an opportunity for local artists to exhibit their work. Artists have been invited to respond with works that capture an “off” moment not posed. Can be whimsical, witty or wicked, charismatic or quirky. A chance to have fun and create ‘fantasmagorical’ art.
Entries close Friday 21 October with the exhibition opening on Friday 4 November at 6pm and running until 18 December.
